While doing an onsite energy audit, we discovered that a company owned transformers with capacity well in excess of their current load.
The size of their plant, while still quite large, was significantly smaller than it had been in the 70s.
While they didn’t need the excess transformer capacity, they were incurring the energizing costs associated with those transformers. The excess energizing costs represented approximately 1/5 of their entire load!
We worked with the customer to shutdown the unneeded transformer. Not only will this save them money on electricity, but it will qualify to help meet FirstEnergy’s energy efficiency mandates and the customer will receive savings as a result.
